Punching my boss's son

By: Sydro_ | Jan 08, 2016 - 07:10 pm

It is St. Patricks Day night 2015 at a local downtown bar. It’s 9:00PM and I’m beginning my barback duties. I’m working with 3 other bartenders (2 men 1 woman). The whole downtown area was having a block party with live music, food, face paintings etc. Our bar was flooded with people getting drinks and listening to the live music throughout the night. It’s 2:00AM now and the block party is over, bars were closing up and people were going home. After an exhausting stressful night of pure hell, the 3 bartender and I decide to have a few drinks. We poured ourselves some shots of Fireball and Irish Car Bombs and chugged them like no tomorrow. Shortly after, 2 shady men walked into the bar and sat down at a table drunk off their ass. They both had navy blue coats on with green shamrock hats and an aroma similar to an ass circus. One was heavy set while the other man was quite fit. “Sorry guys but the bar is closed, so you both are going to have to leave”. I said. They chuckled. “We’re not going anywhere!” said one of the guys said while sipping his Budweiser laughing hysterically. I shrugged it off and continued cleaning up the place. I grabbed a bag of trash out of the bin and made my way outside. At the corner of my eye I saw one of the guys get up from the stool and start approaching the female bartender. I had a bad feeling something shady was about to happen. I ran to the dumpster and threw the trash and ran back. What I saw killed my buzz instantly. My female co-worker was being trapped in the corner of the bar. She struggled to push him away but he kept on backing her closer and closer into the corner. My other co-workers were busy with beer counts and were ignoring this like it was casual everyday business. I was livid. I ran as fast as I could and shoved him to the floor. “Get the **** out of the bar!” I yelled “It’s time for both of you to get the **** out!” *glass shatters The other guy gets up from the stool. His face lit up as red as a cherry and has the most pissed off expression similar to a teased bull. “Do you know who I ******* am kid?!” he screamed This seemed to grab the other 2 bartender’s attention. “I don’t give a **** who are! Get your friend and get the **** out!” He started charging at me from across the bar. He was 3 times my size and twice my age. I was scared, but I knew what I had to do. I had to fight a middle aged man. While he was charging towards me he tripped over a beer bottle and fell. If I wasn’t so pissed off I would have laughed hysterically. This was my chance. I ran towards him before he could get up, but I slipped on spilled beer. I tried to get up as fast as I could but we both ended up on equal ground. He swung and missed. I threw a swift punch and got him on the lip. He stumbled and took a table and a couple of barstools with him to the floor. One of the bartenders pulled me to the opposite side of the bar. “You know that’s the owner’s son, right?” he told me with a serious look on his face. “OH!” I now understood why he was acting the way he did. I wanted to apologize and explain myself but he and his friend were walking out of the bar after I was pulled aside. The female bartender thanked me for defending her and that no one has stuck up for her the way I did. Thankfully, she went outside whenever the owner’s son and I were fighting. The other guy was extremely drunk and just was wandering the bar looking for her. I finished cleaning up, got my tip money, headed home, showered and crashed out. The next morning I had a voicemail from my boss. “I heard what happened last night and you don’t have to bother showing up to work anymore” in a casual voice. I went back to job hunting. Hopefully my next job will last more than 3 weeks and it did.
