Oh no, I got locked out AGAIN!

By: Tanya82 | Sep 15, 2016 - 09:08 am

I feel a bit retarded for posting this story, but if it gives you a laugh, then all is good. So I just moved into a new apartment in London, and I also have a history of locking myself out now and then. So with this in mind, I decided to be proactive and smart about this and have a plan B next time I get locked out. I therefore decided to dig my spare key down in the park nearby. Then, next time when I forgot the key, I could just go down to the park, dig it up and I would be inside in no time. Brilliant idea! I felt really smug about myself. I mean, there is no chance anyone would ever find it in the park. And then the day came. I was in a rush, was a little flustered, had a few too many things to think about for my little brain - and I forgot my key inside. As soon as I was outside on the street, I realized what I had done. I was locked out! Oh no! But then I felt really happy and smart about myself. Because I had already taken measures for this situation. I had already dug down a spare key in the park so that I would have a way to get back in! Wow – how forward thinking and organized was I?? I get to the park, grab a stick, walk over to the spot where I dug it down and start digging. But its not there.. Its not there!!! Where is the key?? Someone dug it up?? What!!??? I resign, drop the stick, fall down on my back and look up at the clear blue skies, wondering who on earth would have dug it up?? But it was so well hidden.. Some dude with a metal detector?? Its Sunday late morning and no way to get a hold of my management company to borrow a spare key. Im thinking I need to crash at a friends place tonight.. and also thinking how best to spend the day. I decide to rent a bike for a day and just cycle around and explore the city. Not such a bad way to spend a sunny day.. I then walk up from the park and pass my apartment. I notice that a window is open! And I am only one floor up from the street. All I need is a ladder! Actually, I could potentially climb up the wall as there is a pipe that runs up the wall close to the window. I then see two men wearing masks to cover their mouths as if they were doing maintenance work or similar. I ask if they do, and I ask if they happen to have a ladder. Turns out, they are getting the unit below my apartment ready for some Italian food store that is coming. And they have a ladder! What? This must be my lucky day! Without questioning whether I am the person living above or a thief, they gladly pull out the ladder, hold it so I can climb up and into my apartment, and are super happy to help. Btw, I could have been anyone. But into my apartment I get and all worries are gone. True story! Next mission – find a much, much better place in the park to dig down my new spare key :)
